Covini C6W
Covini C6W is an Italian sports car with 6 wheels. It is made by Ferrucio Covini. This idea was taken from the 1976 Tyrrell P34 which won the Swedish GP that year, driven by Jody Scheckter. The Tyrrell's designer, Derek Gardner, claimed that the car was gaining a 15-20 horsepower advantage because of the low drag of 10 inch tall wheels. Braking and cornering were improved because of the greater surface area that touched the road. Covini used these principles to make the PMI Covini C6W. The front wheels are 15 inches tall. The car uses a tubular frame with carbon fibre reinforcements, and is powered by a 4.2 Liter Audi V8 that gives 380 horsepower at 5400 rpm. There are many reasons why this car has 6 wheels: better handling, bigger brake surface area, and less risk when aquaplaning because the front wheels clear the water so the back wheels touch the road. This Car is also a more comfortable ride because impact is divided among all six wheels.
